Enhancing the Livelihood and Visibility of Woman Farmers in Himachal Pradesh

CORD has received funding from the Ministry of Rural Development to implement a project titled “Enhancing the Visibility and Livelihood of Woman Farmers through WFGs in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh.” This project is a component of the Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP).

Project Goals:

  • To empower the women in agriculture by making systematic investments to enhance their participation and productivity
  • To create livelihood opportunity, food and nutrition security, and sustainable agriculture for rural women with the help of upcoming technologies and techniques
  • To enhance woman farmer's decision making capacity through education, participation, and community mobilization
  • The implement the principles of Participation, Integration, Networking, and Sustainability through CBOs and SHGs
  • To train women farmers in modern farming techniques and proper animal care
  • To increase efficient use of locally available, environmentally friendly resources

Project Objectives:

  • 2,500 women farmers covered under the project
  • Formation of 120-130 Woman Farmer Groups
  • Formation of 24-26 Panchayat Level Woman Farmer Groups
  • 60% of WFGs registered as ‘Women Farmer Group” with NABARD
  • 170 Hectares of farmland adopting modern farming techniques
  • Training of 24-26 Community Resource Persons
  • Convergence with PRI and other stakeholders
  • Reduction in drudgery, and increased acknowledgment of women as skilled farmer

Project Duration:

The project will be implemented over three years, beginning in April 2014 and ending in March 2017.

Areas under Project:

The project is being implemented in District Kangra of Himachal Pradesh.
